Gururaj, an 11-year-old boy from Todalbagi, Jamkhandi—a small village in Bagalkot, Karnataka—grew up in a loving joint family of ten. His family’s primary livelihood comes from agriculture, earning around ₹25,000 per month. He shares a deep bond with his younger brother, his closest companion in their modest yet happy home.
On September 15, 2024, Gururaj began experiencing persistent fevers. Despite regular medication and multiple diagnostic tests, his condition showed no improvement. His parents grew increasingly anxious. The local doctor, unable to determine the cause, advised them to seek advanced medical care in Bangalore. The thought of traveling to a distant city without sufficient funds weighed heavily on them. With great difficulty, they managed to borrow money from relatives and reached Mazumdar Shaw Medical Center, Narayana Health.
Initial tests ruled out Dengue, but his blood reports raised serious concerns. Doctors suspected Acute Leukemia and immediately recommended a Bone Marrow Biopsy along with further investigations. Then, on October 8, 2024, came the devastating confirmation—Gururaj was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).
His parents were inconsolable, their world shattered by the news. Seeing their distress, young Gururaj, though unable to fully understand his illness, was filled with worry. The doctors and social workers provided counseling, reassuring them that this disease was curable with a high survival rate. However, a new challenge arose—they had no funds to begin treatment.
Recognizing the urgency, the hospital’s social workers immediately reached out to Leukemia Crusaders for financial support. Within 24 hours, Leukemia Crusaders transferred the necessary funds, ensuring that Gururaj could start chemotherapy the very same day.
Today, Gururaj is in the final phase of his chemotherapy, responding well to treatment. His health has improved significantly, and his spirit remains strong. He now dreams of growing up to help others in need, just as he was helped during his toughest time.
His parents are filled with gratitude for the timely support from Leukemia Crusaders, whose intervention turned their despair into hope.
